Vhong Navarro on his new leading lady Angel Locsin: ‘I’m lucky to have you’

Vhong Navarro and Angel Locsin met up last November 30 for the story conference and pictorial of their new fantaserye Kokey @ Ako which is a sequel to the 2007 hit kiddie series about a friendly alien named Kokey. Vhong was overwhelmed with excitement that he will finally be working with Angel. During the story conference, he kept on teasing Angel by saying, “I’m lucky to have you.” Vhong is a good friend of Luis “Lucky” Manzano, Angel’s ex-boyfriend.

ABS-CBN.com interviewed Vhong and the actor/dancer/comedian expressed how fortunate he feels to be working the one of the most bankable young actresses of today. “Sobrang nakakataba ng puso. Alam naman natin kung sino na ang mga naging leading men ni Angel. Hindi ako makapaniwalang nandito ako sa posisyong ito. Salamat sa tiwala ng ABS-CBN sa akin. Mula kay Nicolassa [I Love] Betty La Fea e umangat na uli ang posisyon ko. Leading man na uli, naks!” He added that it is an honor for him to be paired with pretty leading ladies like Toni Gonzaga, Mariel Rodriguez, Valerie Concepcion, and now Angel.

Vhong also shared that this project with Angel almost didn’t push through because of the actress’s busy schedule. “Hindi ko pa nga sure kung matutuloy kasi alam ko may ibang projects din si Angel. Baka hindi na niya magawa itong Kokey. Kaya sobrang natuwa ako nung nalaman kong tinanggap na niya.” He added that he was supposed to work with Angel years ago, when she was still on another network. “Noong nasa kabila pa siya na-introduce lang kami. May gagawin kasi kami dapat na project, hindi lang natuloy. Ngayonsuper saya ko kasi ang unang pagsasama namin e naganap dito sa Kapamilya network.”

In Kokey @ Ako, Angel will play a TV reporter who will help the friendly alien with his mission on Earth, while Vhong will play the boyfriend and cameraman of Angel. A well-known funny man through his hit movies Agent X44, Mr. Suave, and Supahpapalicious, Vhong said he is looking forward to seeing Angel’s flair for comedy. “Cow girl naman ‘yan si Angel. Walang inhibitions ‘yan, ready for anything. Dun siguro lalabas ‘yung pagiging natural niya sa comedy. Siyempre nandiyan naman si Direk Wenn (Deramas) na bihasa na sa comedy, siya ang humawak kay Ai-Ai (de las Alas). Kung anong pwede kong maitulong kay Angelibibigay ko. Walang sapawan sa amin.”

The comedian-dancer further expressed his wish that he will have a successful on-screen chemistry with Angel. “Sana matanggap kami ng mga viewers, magkaroon kami ng on-screen chemistry. Sana matanggap din ako ng mga fans ni Angel bilang bago niyang leading man. I promise na ibibigay ko ‘yung best ko kaya dapat niyong abangan itong Kokey @ Ako.”
